Great place for lunch if you're near Tower Bridge or Tower of London. Away from beaten path, so its not crowded. Outdoor seating. Good prices and menu selection. Friendly staff.
My wife and I found Basil's within easy walking distance of our hotel while staying in London in October. We each got a sandwich and a soft drink. Small storefront. You can't eat in. But if you're looking for good, inexpensive food to go, it's worth seeking out. I walked in by myself a few days later. The people behind the counter recognized me (only second visit ever) and asked about my wife. I ordered another sandwich, then I got a big surprise. They told me that the first time I was there I had dropped a five-pound note (I hadn't even realized it at the time), and they returned my money to me. I got my second sandwich there ever with found money. They found it; I didn't. So, small place good food to go, friendly staff with a great memory for customers faces, and as honest as can be. If I didn't live an ocean away, I'd visit a lot more often.
Very solid sandwich shop in the east of London. Very small so it only for take away food. Nice selection of drinks and chips. Hot drinks too. Sandwich menu is quite extensive I went with an egg and cheese for breakfast with pickles onions and HP sauce. They will make your sandwich to order and service was attentive. It opens at 5:30, even though it is listed as 6:00 on Yelp. They are friendly without being over the top, the place is very clean and the quality is excellent. Ended up ordering the number one choice on the menu, the Salt Beef Special (w/ - what else - gerkins, mustardmayo - yum, what a combo - and swiss cheese). Enjoyed the sammie along the waterfront with the London Tower on my left and the Tower Bridge along the vista...sweet!
